With the release of the (apparently not very good) movie El Cantante, interest in the singer Héctor Lavoe could grow amongst people unfamilar with 1970s salsa and Lavoe’s legend. A good place to start is with his classic album La Voz, re-released and remastered in 2006 by Fania Records.

In 2006, Fania Records, the dominant salsa/Afro-Cuban music label in the late 1960s and especially throughout the 1970s, began releasing remastered versions of their classic albums.
