The Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela (Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero) released this short, self-titled collection in late 2006 to much attention from the hipster/indie rock crowd. They are two acoustic guitarists playing a combination of flamenco and heavy metal with no vocals Formerly members of speed metal bands in Mexico City, the pair moved to Ireland to play in the streets and pubs of Dublin, so the influence of traditional Irish music is also evident. I’m sure playing one of most tired songs of all time, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, featured in this CD, was an easy way to collect more tips, every busker needs some reliable classics to make ends meet.

Obviously the duo is talented and their skill impressive. The songs do not vary much and have the same ultra-fast speed and little melody as the speed metal that originally inspired the duo. Of the original songs Ixtapa, Tamacun, and Vikingman along with the Metallica cover Orion change up the tempos and have melodic changes making them more engaging. At low volumes this disc could probably find its way into every non-Starbucks coffee shop, as background music.

Ellos son guitarristas acústicas que tocando una combinación de flamenco y heavy metal sin vocales. Cuando vivían en México DF, eran miembros de bandas speed metal. Desde que ellos mudan a Dublín, para tocar en las calles y bares, también tienen una influencia de música tradicional irlandesa. Es seguro que ellos tocando Stairway to Heaven por Led Zeppelín, también en esto disco, porque era fácil para obtener más propinas con esta canción. Cada músico de las calles necesita clásicos fiables para hacer bastante a vivir.
Es evidente que el dúo es muy talentoso y impresionante. Las canciones no varían mucho y tienen la misma velocidad y falta de melodía como el speed metal que inspiran ellos originalmente.
